Tuesday September 20 - Monday October 3
- When Mattie says purple, she says "purper," and when CJ is excited about something, his voice goes high-pitched and he exclaims, "I'm so exciting!!"
- The other day Bryce was reading over our blog (the post on Powell's birth) and commented about how I can write in the first person if I want. I explained to him that our blog is our family blog; it's our family history, and so I try not to write it from my perspective only - that's what the Monday Night Musings section is for - that's why I write our posts in the third person (as I write, I imagine I'm writing it as if Bryce and I were sitting down together telling the story and you can't tell who is doing the writing). When we look back on these years and years from now, I don't want our entire family history to be written from my voice alone. So if you've ever wondered why I write that way, now you know.
- 9/20 I took Powell in today for his newborn check-up. He is 3 days old and weighs 9 lbs 8 oz. He has lost 10 oz since he was born, which the pediatrician says is great for a baby his size. Apparently he has grown though because he was 21 and 5/8" long and his head was 14."
- 9/25 I got pooed on for the first time today. It's actually quite amazing that it took my third child to actually have this experience. It was quite shocking to be pretty much sprayed on by poop. Oh well though...comes with the territory (and totally worth it :).

- 9/26 Mattie started saying "oh my gosh" and "oh my heck" today. Hmmmmm...don't know how I feel about that...
- 9/26 today was supposed to be Powell's birth day. SOOOO glad we've already had the little guy for 9 days! Can't get enough of him!!
- 9/27 Powell got circumcised today. Slept through almost the whole procedure, thank goodness.
- 10/2 It's like Mattie woke-up this morning and decided she was ready to be potty-trained. To be honest, we'd kinda given up the last two weeks, especially the last week, just putting her in Pull-ups all the time. But then this morning, Mattie came out of the bathroom and declared that she had gone potty. And she had! And then she continued to go by herself all day. We're so happy! And she is so happy! We think it has something to do with the fact that CJ has been praying for Mattie to "do good going poop and pee" :)
- CJ has been obsessed with jumping lately. I'm not sure when it started - sometime in the last two weeks - but he jumps ALL THE TIME! He'll be headed somewhere, even running, and he'll stop in his tracks to jump over things like lines, cracks, shadows, sunlight, anything. It's pretty hilarious!
- So our kids have done really well with the baby. However, I do think they are acting out in their own ways. They're not taking it out on the baby, which we are so grateful for - they adore Powell - but they are finding other ways to get attention. For Mattie, it's been increasing frustration with things and tantrums and being super stubborn. And then of course, she's kind of regressed on her potty-training...of course, she wasn't there all the way to begin with so we're not that surprised. CJ, on the other hand, has started having accidents, which is very unlike him. He never has accidents. So to have him be just two feet from the toilet and have an accident has been almost infuriating. And then on top of that, by the time late afternoon arrives CJ has been going crazy, running around, getting into things and doing things he knows he's not supposed to, and completely ignoring and disobeying us. I mean, over the last couple of months he's kind of started to be a little more rebellious anyway, but the last two weeks it has just grown exponentially. We're hoping that it has to do more with being bored being stuck at home the last two weeks than it has to do with the new baby. Ask me again in a couple of months and we'll see where we're at...
- As for me, I was able to put on my real wedding ring this week! It's a little tight, but it was on! And in the last two weeks I've lost about 30 pounds. I'm embarrassed to say that I still have about 20 more to go, but happy that I can put on non-maternity jeans and actually button them closed. I'm still quite a bit away from fitting into my pre-pregnancy jeans, but so glad that a bulk of the 49 pounds I gained was my 10 pound baby and a ton of fluids (Bryce said when Powell was born, there was literally fluids gushing out with him. Then the doctor in the hospital told me that I'd have swelling for about two weeks while my body got rid of all the fluids, and he was right). And I'm feeling pretty back to normal. I still get a little sore after a long day of lots of standing and activity, but despite being sleep deprived, I have so much more energy now. Bryce even admitted that he didn't believe me when I was pregnant and kept saying it would be so much better to be tired from lack of sleep than tired from incubating a baby, but now he sees it. He told me that he's happy that I "give him the time of day now." Oh :( Poor guy :( But at least that's past us now. He is such a great husband who never complained while I was pregnant despite my crazy moodiness and was always so willing to sacrifice his own comfort for me. And still is. Love him tons and tons!!
- My mom left today. She's been here for two weeks. Two weeks is a long time, but I couldn't have done it with out her. Our house is cleaner than it's been since we moved in. Bryce's work clothes are all ironed. All our dishes are washed and put away and our laundry is caught-up. Being able to not worry about things around the house (i.e. sit on my rear-end all day) is really the reason I feel so great now, just two weeks later.
- I love how excited Mattie gets about the baby. She notices every time he cries, and exclaims, "His eyes are open!" whenever Powell is awake, and she love to hold his hand or his foot if she's near by him. And if he happens to bush against her in anyway, she'll excitedly proclaim, "He touch me!"
- 10/3 CJ said the cutest thing today. He told me that he wished that Powell would go back in my tummy because he was so excited to see him. Then a minute or two later, he told me that he didn't want Powell to go back in my tummy because he was glad he was here. I think it's so cute that CJ remembers being so excited and wanted to feel that way again, but then I think he realized that meant we wouldn't have Powell again, so he took back his statement. He is such a good big brother.
For the most part, we're doing great around here!
Happy Monday!

I realy wish I could have stayed with you for two more weeks. Then I could have taken more time to spend with my two beautiful and smart grandchildren. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving. Love, Mom
