Tuesday September 6 - Monday September 12
- CJ has gotten into the habit of mumbling certain words, especially a positive reply. Instead of saying "uh-huh" when we ask him a question, he'll just barely say, "huh." We know what it means, but a lot of people think he's either ignoring them or just indifferent. So we've been trying to work with him on saying either yes or no. He's getting it, but it's definitely a work in progress.
- And speaking of bad habits, how do you break a kid of one? CJ has this weird thing where he likes to touch his nipples. When he doesn't have a shirt on (and even when he does), and if he's not engaged in something, he's touching his nipples (I think it started with them being hard when he's cold and they felt different, but now he just does it all the time). He's even started to tell me, "Mommy, I'm touching my nickles (nipples)." It's a strange habit that Bryce and I both don't like, and the worst part is that he's stretching out all the collars to his shirts. At first, I thought he was just itchy, because he has slight eczema once in a while, so we would encourage him to go under his shirt instead of through his collar if he had an itch. But now we're realizing he's just touching those darn nipples, and he has already ruined two of his shirts by stretching out the collars so badly. We're at a loss as to what to do. Don't get me wrong, he doesn't do it all the time, but pretty much whenever he is watching tv or not really engaged in anything (like sitting in the grocery cart), or whenever he's wet. It's a bugger and we're trying to figure it out without turning to punishments for it. Ugh...parenting is hard.
- And Mattie seems to have picked up on CJ's laziness in speaking and has started combining her words...mainly when it comes to saying please. She's very good at her manners, but when it comes to something she wants to do, she'll often combine "please may I..." into "pie." For example, if we're reading a book and she wants to read the page, she'll say, "plie read?" or if she wants some of something, she'll say "plie I have some?" To be honest though, I think it's pretty cute and for the most part, she's very good at saying her please and thank yous.
- So CJ ate half an apple this morning and was talking about the seeds and how he wanted to plant them. I was in the middle of getting ready so I told him we could plant them after I finished getting ready and then I continued blow-drying my hair. Then the next thing I know, CJ comes into the bathroom telling me that he can't get the seed out of his ear! What?! Sure enough, it was lodged in there pretty good. I could barely see it! I went and got my tweezers and was trying to keep myself calm (I wanted to panic a little bit). As I tried to get it, I wasn't having much success and I was worried that I was going to push it in there even more. And I was thinking about how I was going to have to take him to the doctor's and what a pain it was going to be. Anyway, I thought it would be a good teaching moment for CJ, so I asked him to say a prayer to ask Heavenly Father for help to get the seed out. So he did. Then I asked him if he thought Heavenly Father would help us since he asked, and CJ said yes. And sure enough, a couple of tries later we got the seed out! I was sure to point out to CJ that Heavenly Father answered his prayer and that we needed to say a prayer thanking Heavenly Father, so CJ did. He even thanked Heavenly Father again when he said the prayer over lunch and at FHE. It brought a tear to my eye. I know he's young, but I just hope it stays with him in some way or another.
- I went to the doctor today for my 38 week check-up. Can you believe it, I'm still growing! 42 cm!! How is that possible?! I have a feeling I'm going to have to return all the cute little "newborn" outfits I've purchased because this little guy is going to fit into the 0-3 month clothes right away. Part of me hopes I'm wrong...but then I'll feel pretty bad about myself knowing that all this weight gain and me being so huge wasn't the baby at all :). Oh yeah, and I gained another 3 pounds! I hadn't gained any weight all week, and then last night I stepped on the scale and had gained 6 pounds in a matter of hours! Thank goodness it had dropped down to 3 this morning. However, in my defense, my feet and ankles were/are huge, so I know I'm totally retaining fluids. Ugh. Anyway, Dr. Pitts checked me and I'm almost dilated to a 3 and I'm about 50% effaced. I was going to head over to Seattle on Tuesday night with Bryce and the kids because Bryce has a CLE in Seattle on Wednesday, but Dr. Pitts did not think that was a good idea. Yes, what was Bryce thinking signing up for a CLE so close to my due date?? I dunno! Anyway, I think Bryce is going to do it via the web so he can stay here in Wenatchee. Now I'm hoping I have the baby Wednesday so Bryce thinks it was worth it :). Really though, the best time would be this weekend. Bryce's parents might come over for a day, and even if they don't, Bryce will be home, and I because it's the weekend I won't feel as bad asking someone to watch our kids for an extended period of time. And then my mom comes in on Monday, so it would all just work out so perfect (cuz that's how labor works, right? perfectly. lol)! Here's hoping...
Happy Monday!
