MONDAY NIGHT MUSINGS

- I love how CJ is concerned about his sister. If he gets a snack, he asks, "Mattie get a snack too?" If we brush his teeth or cut his nails, he asks, "Mattie turn?" And then when it's time for bed he asks, "Mattie bed too?" :)

- I don't know if I've mentioned it, but I want to remember the way CJ talks. Most of his statements sound like questions, and I LOVE how he holds out the last syllable of words: "Mattie get a snack toooooo?" "Taco Bell Tiiiiiime?" (that's a combination of Taco Bell and Taco Time...oh yeah, did I mention that CJ's favorite food is tacos? Fast food or homemade, it's one of the few things that he'll actually eat ALL of)

- (6/1/10) Mattie said "Papa" for the first time

- (6/2/10) Mattie said banana for the frist time. CJ was eating a banana and Mattie was obviously jealous, so she started reaching her hand out and calling, "nana, nana," as she walked toward CJ to take his banana

- Last Wednesday Bryce's sister, Kelsey, had a YW program honoring the graduating seniors. We went to the church earlier that day with Bryce's mom to help her set up. While we were there, CJ started asking for gum. We told him the gum was in the car, so the next thing he wanted was the keys. We told him no, but he didn't forget. About 20 minutes later he started asking for the keys again, and guess who did forget why CJ wanted the keys...yup, Bryce went ahead and gave CJ the keys, thinking he just wanted to play with them. Ten minutes later, when we couldn't find CJ, I sent Bryce out to the car, and sure enough, there CJ was. CJ had used the keys to UNLOCK the locked door, then PUT THE KEYS IN THE INGNITION! He didn't actually turn the car on, thank goodness, because he found what he was looking for...when Bryce found him he was stuffing gum in his face! CJ may not be as physically crazy as some kids his age - he doesn't wrestle or jump off things or whatever it may be - but he sure seems more precocious than a lot of kids we know, and we definitely have to keep our eye on him and give him more credit.

- Mattie knows where her nose is now. And when you ask her where her nose is, she not only points to it (half the time putting her finger in her nose, not just on it), but she blows it too!

- Bryce and I went on our first romantic getaway this week! It was fantastic!

- Mattie has started saying "baby" too. I heard her say it last week, but wasn't sure if it was really what she meant until yesterday. In Relief Society, a baby boy was sitting on a woman's lap just two or three chairs down from where we were sitting and Mattie looked right at him and said, very clearly, "baby." And then she did it again a few minutes later! Her vocabulary is really starting to expand!

- Bryce's mom and I took CJ took a pediatric surgeon today for a consultation about his epigastric hernia. We had to wait an hour just to see the doctor, which was the hardest part with the kids starving and no toys in the waiting room (thank goodness we had snacks). Dr. Javid was really great, so I guess it was worth the wait, and yes, CJ does have an epigastric hernia. An epigastric hernia is where the stomach lining between the abdomen muscles never finished enclosing so either fat, or sometimes, bowel can begin to protrude through the hole. CJ most likely has fat in his hole, and it's not a serious condition, just something that will cause him more and more discomfort as he grows, so we want to take care of it now (especially because we have insurance for it now). CJ is all set. July 8th he'll get the surgery to get his tiny hernia closed. It's only an hour long procedure and we can take him home the same day. The recovery is minimal and we don't even have to take him back in (they do a follow-up phone call 5 days later), so I'm not too worried...emphasis on too...

- Bryce got the kids ready for bed tonight, which he does most nights, and as I held Mattie to say goodnight, I asked her if she wanted to sing a song and which song she wanted to sing. Just like her older brother, and clear as day, she said, "Ummmmm..."  :)
